Induction to Skills for Care Training

In common with the Mandatory Units Training, all carers working in the United Kingdom must complete the Induction to Skills for Care Training. The programme consists of six modules which are unique to the programme i.e. they are not offered as separate courses. The modules, lasting two days in total, are:

Understanding the principle of care

Values underlying a care relationship; equality of opportunity and respecting diversity; confidentiality; sharing information; privacy and dignity; person-centred care; empowering residents; care planning; risk assessment and procedures.

Understanding the organisation and role of the care worker

Aims of the employee and organization; partnership working; following policies and procedures; accessing policies and procedures; personal work ethic.

Maintain safety at work

Key Health and Safety legislation; local policies and procedures; moving and handling legislation; promoting fire safety; basic first aid; infection control; basic medicine management and health care procedures; workplace security and safeguards.

Communicate effectively

Motivating communication; barriers; behaviour as communication; listening; communicating by touch; reports and record keeping.

Recognise and respond to abuse and neglect

Key legislation; policies and procedures; clarifying terminology; reporting; children; whistle blowing; following up with action.

Develop as a worker

Getting support from your employer; supervision; personal development through skills and knowledge; personal development plan.

The package of courses can be delivered either at our dedicated training facilities in Derby or at the client's venue.

Setting up an internal Induction to Skills for Care Training Programme

Depending on a number of considerations some care home managers decide to develop their own internal induction programme which complies with CQC requirements; Quantum Management Services can provide consultancy to help clients establish such a programme.
