Training Course Name: Moving and Handling
Brief Description: Correct moving and handling technique does not necessarily come naturally; it must be learned. Mistakes in procedure can be highly costly in terms of danger to residents and staff health and safety. Attending this course will help ensure learners perform this basic and essential aspect of their work correctly, and also be able to advise others informally in how to reduce risk of back strain and other occupational hazards.  This course is one of six in our Mandatory Units Training course package.
Learning Outcomes: Learners will acquire understanding of: principles of safe moving and handling; legal background and requirements; basic human anatomy relating to lifting etc. and how injuries occur; internal moving and handling policies; communicating good practice. Specific techniques learnt include: log rool; correct use of slide sheet; transfer from/to bed and movement within the bed; correct use of transfer belt and transfer board; seat and floor turntable; patient-carer communication.
Suitable for: All care home staff required to move objects, including adminstrative staff e.g. taking deliveries.
Related Course(s): This course is one of six modules of Mandatory Units Training; it may be delivered more economically for some care homes as part of this package. Also relates to Health and Safety.
