Training Course Name : Mental Capacity Act Training
Brief Description: 'Mental capacity' relates to decision making, and this course will give delegates an insight into evaluating 'capacity' and procedures for care when that capacity is in doubt. Applying the principal of 'best interests' throughout and using case scenarios, delegates will understand the importance of individual rights, dignity and respect and adopting a sensitive, personalised approach. This course can be extended to incorporate Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (which is also offered as a separate one day course).
Learning Outcomes:  Defining and operationalising the concept of 'capacity' within the sense of the law and practically; evaluating decision-making ability (and thus 'capacity'); making informed decisions regarding a patient's 'best interests' and also those of others; planning care and support; advocacy and advocates; appropriate use of restraint; future care and treatment models; safeguards.
